Chancel Choir

Our Chancel Choir sings every week in worship and rehearses on Wednesday evenings. The repertoire is theologically sound and musically eclectic covering the entire range of sacred choral literature. There is a strong emphasis on developing spiritual depth, expressive musicianship, skilled vocalism and sight reading. New singers are always welcome.

South Church Handbell Ringers 

South Church Handbell Ringers is an adult performance ensemble. We participate in worship on a monthly basis and perform regularly for concerts, weddings and holiday events. SCHR participates annually in the Vermont Spring Ring handbell festival held on the last Saturday of April.  The ensemble rehearses weekly on Monday evenings.  A musical background is helpful when joining this ensemble, but is not required.

Bells Angels

Bells Angels is a high-school performance ensemble co-sponsored by St. Johnsbury Academy and South Congregational Church, though high-school age musicians from all schools and faiths are welcome to participate. Bells Angels rehearses weekly on Wednesday afternoons. The performance schedule includes Academy chapels and concerts, Area 1 High School Ring-Out, and a Spring Concert Tour. The ensemble also rings monthly during worship at South Church. New members are invited to join in September. Students with strong musical background can be incorporated into the ensemble at any time.

Music Lessons & Coaching

Both Phil and Marie-Hélène offer private music instruction for children and adults.  Lessons are offered at South Church and are available to all.   

• Marie-Hélène offers instruction in piano - at South Church on Thursday and Sunday afternoon and at Green Mountain School of Piano in S. Woodbury.
• Phil Brown offers private instruction in voice and guitar on Tuesday afternoons.  Phil is also available for coaching of singers, instrumentalists and groups perparing for auditions or interested in improving ensemble.
